If that list is lacking slightly in wattage from the true stars of MLB, it's probably due to Color Storm's status as an in-between and largely impromptu Team Affinity program, seemingly developed on the fly in response to a lack of post-launch Team Affinity content in April and the community backlash that came with the notion that no more would be coming until the All-Star Game. And with All-Stars from all 30 teams assuredly taking the spots in whatever that stage of Team Affinity ends up being, the player pool here was always destined to be a bit shallow, and the cards themselves are mostly not the absolute best at their positions in DD.

Still, there are some real gems amidst these 30 Color Storm players, like Angels fireballer Ben Joyce (with Outlier I and II) and fleet-footed Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto, and plenty of reason to get back to grinding the missions for each team. And all 30 of these Color Storm players are Captains that can boost players from each team up to 95 OVR, meaning that they will be cornerstones of theme teams for months to come, even though some of the Captains double up on Hitting or Pitching Captains from the Jolt series tied to My Journey and the boosts allocated to each Captain have been adjusted in an attempt to balance their power.

And the art? The art is exquisite, following in the footsteps of the Hyper series from MLB The Show's recent past to deliver lovely portraits of each player depicted against a vibrant backdrop.

Color Storm Structure

The Team Affinity Color Storm program is, as was perhaps to be expected, almost entirely separate from the structure of the Team Affinity: My Journey program that has an XP path that runs out through the rest of the content calendar for MLB The Show 25. That means that the progress made in My Journey is more parallel to Color Storm than foundational to it, with one crucial exception.

Each Color Storm reward path requires 50,000 XP to complete, with the 91 and 92 OVR players at the end of the rainbow (get it?). A single moment for each team is worth 10,000 of those XP, and there are stat-based tasks of strikeouts and total bases from players from each team for 10,000 XP each, Parallel XP tasks for hitters and pitchers for 20,000 XP each, and a stat-based task worth 10,000 XP for each team's Jolt series player -- unlocked through My Journey progress -- that make up the rest of the XP pool.

This isn't meant to be a difficult grind: San Diego Studio reiterated, over and over, repeatedly, again and again on its Color Storm reveal live stream, each path is intended to take about an hour to complete. Given that players will probably most efficiently get to the 50K XP with completion of the moment, one of the two stat-based missions, one of the two Parallel XP-based missions, and the Jolt player mission, the best method for grinding Color Storm is likely focusing on pitchers from one team and hitters from another to maximize progress and minimize waste.

The rest of each reward path includes two The Show packs, one Ballin' is a Habit pack, 4,500 Season XP, and some cosmetics tied to each team, with two alternate uniforms being the most appealing of those. Over 30 individual Color Storm paths, that translates to 60 The Show packs, 30 Ballin' is a Habit packs, and 135,000 Season XP -- just less than a quarter of what is necessary to max out the Season 3 XP reward path.

But maybe the biggest reward for Color Storm is how it ties in to My Journey: A new task in each My Journey menu allows players to collect 500 Parallel XP with each Color Storm player for a staggering 150,000 XP in those My Journey reward paths, which is more than half of what is necessary to get to the All-Star vouchers for each team. Allowing newcomers and returning players to essentially circumvent the grind of My Journey to date with All-Star Weekend on the horizon is maybe not going to be received with universal acclaim, given that the grinders are a loud and crochety component of the Diamond Dynasty community, but it's simply a massive win for anyone who intends on taking on the full and daunting My Journey paths to have an enormous chunk of progress available to them.
