The Season 1 Awards program got a new drop, we have a brand new pack featuring young players, and there’s a pretty exciting chase card in the mix.

As you can tell, there’s a bunch of new content in MLB The Show 24, so let’s get into it all!

On this page:

Season 1 Awards Drop 2 Pack

Drop 2 brings a good mix of 92 and 89 OVR players to the game. As you would expect, you can buy the pack for 30k stubs for a maximum of five times. Let’s dive into it to see if anything stands out.

Oswaldo Cabrera

We start with Oswaldo Cabrera, the Yankees shortstop, who is enjoying a fine run of form. With two homers to his name so far, including a game-tying one almost a week ago, the Venezuelan is red-hot!

I really like the 101/93 and 88/81 splits against righties and lefties, respectively. After all, he is a switch hitter, so it isn’t all that surprising. The defense looks alright, plus you can play him in virtually every position except for catcher and pitcher.

It’s worth noting that he doesn’t fit any captain boost aside from the Yankees theme team. Overall, he’s a nice, versatile option!

Brady Singer

The Royals starting pitcher, Brady Singer, is also here, and he brings a really solid pitching mix. He doesn’t exactly throw gas, but his 93mph sinker should be pretty good. The per 9/s are looking well-balanced at 85+ each. There’s really no rush to get him on your team, but it’s a nice card nonetheless.

Victor Scott

The Cardinals’ center fielder Victor Scott could be looking at a breakout season this year. He’s already proven his base-stealing prowess in the minors, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps showing us more of that flair in the MLB.

The 89 OVR card reflects his prime defensive capabilities, with 87 FLD and 90 REAC. His speed is maxed out, which, again, is not surprising given what he’s capable of on the diamond. Basically, he’s a really safe bet as a defensive option, especially if you’re running the Cardinals theme team.

Christian Encarnacion

Another decent 89 OVR card belongs to the Reds’ Christian Encarnacion, the right-handed batter who delivers 90/102 against rightie pitchers. He also benefits from the Buxton captain boost, which would give him handy upgrades in the fielding and speed departments.

The timing of this card is pretty on-point, given how CES hit a walk-off homer to secure victory for the “Rally Reds” against the Nationals earlier this week!

Ryan Borucki

Rounding out the new Drop is Pirates pitcher Ryan Borucki, who brings a nice pitch mix. We have a slider, circle change, 95-mph sinker, and sweeper to tie it all up.

His H/9 rating of 108 is pretty good, as is his 112 pitch clutch. Overall, it's not a bad card, and I can definitely see him bringing some value to teams.

MLB Pipeline Pack

The exciting pick of the bunch here is 19-year-old Yankees shortstop Roderick Arias. From Derek Jeter to Anthony Volpe, New York has had great luck with the SS position, and Arias is set to be another exciting prospect.

As for Arias’ 92 OVR card in the Pipeline pack, it’s seriously impressive. With splits of 86/92 and 74/80 against righties, the switch hitter is decent with the bat in hand. Plus, he fits the Byron Buxton captain boost, which maxes out his fielding and speed stats.

So, you get a defensively sound switch hitter who could be well worth the 40k stubs you spend on him!

Aside from Arias, Pipeline doesn’t exactly have a standout player. Sure, there are solid options, like the Rockies’ Jordan Beck, who brings a good amount of power and nice defensive stats to the table.

Nick Frasso, for the Dodgers, has an outlier on the sinker with a good pitch mix, including 4-seam and circle change.

The Mets’ Ryan Clifford, who also qualifies for the Buxton captain boost, could be a good platoon base option. His 96/110 split against right-handed pitchers is particularly solid.

Another 89 OVR leftie who knows his way around rightie pitchers is the Royals’ Blake Mitchell, offering an 85/95 split in that department. He also fits the Buxton captain boost as a result of his 46 vision rating.

Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio is a good fielding option with 88 FLD. He also delivers excellent contact against righties, but that’s really about it.

As you can tell, the pack features a healthy mix of talent that is just really hard to differentiate from each other. Unless you’re eyeing up Arias, you might be better off waiting for next week’s Team Affinity Chapter 2, which will likely yield cards in the 93+ OVR region for free.

New Chase Card - Shota Imanaga

He may not have created the same hype as fellow Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but his start to life in MLB has been immense. He was just breathtaking from the mound on his debut, guiding the Cubs to a 5-0 win against the Rockies with his trademark fastball.

And now, he has a 93 OVR chase card all to himself in the game!

The first thing that stands out to me from his stats is the pitch mix, which features a good velocity differential between the slurve and 12-6. The per /9s are solid at 84+ each, and the pitch clutch rating of 100 will come in handy in some sticky situations.

Overall, it’s a fun Hyper Series card, and I can imagine Cubs fans, in particular, being extra hyped about it!

Headliners 7 - Matt Shaw

Speaking of the Cubs, here is another one from the Windy City franchise—shortstop Matt Shaw! His 93 OVR card is pretty strong from an offensive perspective, especially with splits of 88/80 and 100/94 against righties and lefties, respectively.

The defensive stats are pretty commendable, especially with 81 REAC. Plus, the 84 speed rating is good enough for someone in the SS position. Once again, this is a pretty nice card and one that Cubs Nation will undoubtedly appreciate.
